Dilawar Khan Ghauri

Dilawar Khan Ghauri
(?-1405)
A descendant of Mu'izz al-Din Muhammad Ghauri who was serving as an officer under Firuz Shah Tughlaq (1351-1388). In 1387, Firuz Shah appointed him as the gov-ernor of Malwa. Following Timur's invasion (1398), Dilawar Khan, like other provincial governors, took advantage of the confusion in the central government and made himself independent within his own charge. In 1401, he formally declared himself the sultan of Malwa and struck coins in his name. He shifted the seat of his power from Dhar to Mandu, which became the capital of the newly established sultanate of Malwa. Dilawar Khan died in 1405 and was succeeded by his son Alp Khan with the title Sultan Hoshang Shah Ghauri.
